"AI isn’t here to snatch the pen from journalists’ hands". Do you think that this could be challenged? I don't expect the Journalism community to adopt it but if you are more on the investigation side (e.g: the geeks into OSINT), it is nice to be able to focus on the data and the research, and leverage AI to shape the content from your research.
I think many journalists and media specialists resist AI in newsrooms because they see it as a threat to journalistic integrity. But, like it or not, AI is inevitable. Instead of fighting it, I think we should focus on making it work for us.
It might not be “snatching the pen” outright, and I stand by that statement, but it’s certainly changing who holds it and how it’s used. As in OSINT and investigative work, it is undoubtedly an incredible tool for data processing, pattern recognition, and automating tedious research tasks, but should it also be shaping the content itself? That’s where things get tricky and journalists get skeptical.
If AI is just structuring research findings, it’s helpful. But if it starts dictating narratives, prioritizing certain angles, or even generating reports with minimal human oversight, then at what point does leveraging AI become outsourcing the entire process you know?
